Getting Started

What is CrossFit and is it for me?

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity. What does that mean? It is simple. We use functional movements that you do in everyday life (squatting, pushing, pulling) in a variety of combinations during each Workout of the Day (WOD.)

For example, getting in and out of your car. Or picking up a bag of mulch—or a child. These activities involve squatting, bending, and lifting motions. Those are functional movements in daily life. In CrossFit, we focus on perfecting the technique of those movements as well as adding time and weight components to it. CrossFit is for everyone, and we offer scaling options for all our workouts for all skill levels and ages. Technique over weight is the most important aspect of our coaching at CrossFit 1490.

What can I expect?

At CrossFit 1490, you will be welcomed by one of our coaches, and they will help you check into our system. Next, we’ll head over to the pliability and flexibility area where we’ll discuss the workout. The coach will lead a group warm up, then a strength training block, followed by the daily WOD (Workout of the Day).

Once the WOD is finished, hand out some high fives, cool down, stretch, smile and make a few new friends! During that entire hour, your coaches are focused on helping you move better, making sure you are safe and motivated throughout the workout. This is the best part of your day so enjoy it!

Why choose CrossFit 1490?

At CrossFit 1490, we take a lot of pride in our programming and coaching. We have over 1,000 coaching hours and follow a simple philosophy with three key facets:

  1. Mechanics: Coach to master the movements
  2. Consistency: The 1st rep looks like the 100th rep
  3. Intensity: Increase only if #1 and #2 are met

At 1490, our programming is carefully designed to apply the right stimulus at the right time. We log the amount of repetitions programmed every week and systematically adjust the numbers to prevent overtraining and burnout. We take pride in the amount of time it takes us to create our constantly varied WODs every month.
